Church Ministries & Relational Groups
At First Christian Church we are fortunate to offer a variety of ministries and relational groups that span from outreach to photography and everywhere in between.  Most of the ministries and relational groups have a contact person.  If one is not listed, please call the church office or email us for additional information!  We want to help you find your place and ministry within First Christian!
To see if any of these groups are meeting in the near future OR if there are changes to their normal meeting times, please visit the News &  Activities page!

Christian Men's Fellowship
The men of our congregation enjoy getting together from time to time simply to fellowship.  Two of their most enjoyable times of fellowship are gathering to cook boston butts for their annual Boston Butt Sale in November and firing up the pancakes in February/March for their Pancake Supper!  If you would like to be involved with the men of our church, please contact Allan Daniell or Michael Wetherington
Christian Women's Fellowship
1st Tuesdays at 2PM or 1st Thursdays @ 6:30PM
The CWF provides an opportunity for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministry that enables women to develop a sense of person responsibility for the whole mission of the church of Jesus Christ.   All women of the church are invited to join us monthly and beyond for times of fellowship through our CWF Circle Fellowship.  The CWF is currently composed of two "circles".
Our Afternoon Circle meets the first Tuesday of each month at 2PM from September through June.  They meet in the church parlor in the FCC Education Building.
Our Evening Circle meets the first Thursday of each month from September through June at 6:30 PM, usually in a member's home.
Young At Heart Fellowship
Third Thursdays @ NOON
This ministry provides opportunities for the senior members of our congregation to develop new friendships, grow in faith and expand their horizons. All seniors are welcome to participate in this incredible ministry. We meet the third Thursday of every month over lunch!  We enjoy a meal together and participate in various activities, outings, and programs throughout the year.  Contact Gilda Cauley if you would like to join in on this fellowship!
Fellowship with Friends (Young Adult Ministry)
Our Young Adult Ministry is called "Fellowship with Friends".  These young ones are active in their desire to fellowship and uplift each other in their faith journey.  They usually gather in a restaurant or home once month to uphold each other and continually be a support to one another. The average range is usually 20s-30s but don’t let that hold you back!  Contact Casey Childers if you would like to know more about this ministry and where they are meeting next!

Compassion & Service Ministry
A church without a sense of mission risks degenerating into a glorified social club. The Outreach Committee is primarily responsible for maintaining this sense of mission at First Christian, although by no means does it exhaust the total thrust of missions in the congregation.  These missions include:
Advocating for Mission Endeavors in the Church Budget
The committee annually reviews and recommends budgetary amounts for worthy missions enterprises. At present we support Hope Station, Wesley Shelter and the Disciples' Mission Fund, the common fund of the denomination which funds global, national and regional ministries- 72 in all - in addition to our higher education institutions and our central offices in Indianapolis.
Promoting the Disciples of Christ 6 Special Offerings
Our six special missions offerings include the Week of Compassion ( world disaster relief) , Easter ( the General Ministries of the church), Pentecost ( new church development ), Reconciliation ( race and ethnic relations ), Thanksgiving ( Disciples' colleges, universities and theological institutions ) and Christmas ( regional ministries ).
First Christian Church is one of many in the community which supports a ministry to the identifiably hungry students in our county school system by packing and delivering food bags to select schools.  CHEW stands for "Coordinating Childrens' Hunger Elimination of Wilson". Volunteer to help pick up food, pack food or deliver food as we continue to help support hunger elimination in Wilson.

The Wilson Community Christmas Meal
For several years the committee has envisaged and organized a Christmas-day celebration of food, music and gift-giving for the less fortunate in our area. This event grows in popularity and multi-church participation each year.
along with these major responsibilities, we also minister through...
Partnership in Education: Lee Woodard Elementary
The CMF donated monies to be used for the Lee Woodard Project Serve.  We help support this school and their staff members by donating classroom necessities, packets of joy for staff members and other areas of need within their school.  Members of our congregation are also making donations to this project. Thank you for showing your compassion in these ways as we continue to spread God's love.  If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact Gilda Cauley.
Pastor’s Benevolence Fund
The Pastor’s Benevolence Fund is a mechanism used to help members of our church and community residents with legitimate needs.  Many community members pass through our doors each week simply needing assistance.  The Pastor's Benevolence Fund allows us to directly help community members in an immediate crisis.  Members may make donations to this fund at any time during the year.
Hope Station
First Christian Church was instrumental in the formation of Wilson Community Interfaith Services which operates Hope Station in a former fire station a few blocks from the church. Members of our church volunteer and assist weekly at the food pantry.
Music Ministry
First Christian Church is fortunate to have a very strong music ministry at its core.  Our Minister of Music & Organist, Casey Childers, has been with us since 2007.  Those involved in the music ministry find themselves in a tightly knit family that is centered around faith, love, prayers and a constant strive for musical excellence.   Everyone strives to offer their best which is represented through a vast diversity of styles and musical genres.  We have a Chancel Choir, The Chalice Ringers (handbell choir), a Sacred Music Performing Arts Series and children's music ministry.  Within each of these groups, new membership is always welcome whether you are a member of First Christian Church or not. We rejoice when our family and community grows!  Please visit the Music Ministries page to learn more about each ALL of our music ministries at FCC and how you can be involved!
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Sundays at 10AM (or 9AM during our summer 10AM Worship Schedule)
Our prayer shawl ministry meets Sundays at 10AM in the Parlor.  This ministry grew out of an education hour experience and is continuing to grow!  All materials are provided.  Children to senior adults are involved in this ministry which was commissioned on Sunday, February 7, 2016.  The prayer shawls are created and distributed to members of our community who are in our prayers.  All are welcome to join!  If you know of someone in need of a prayer shawl, please contact the church office.

Relational Groups
Photoplay Photography
Photoplay is a group of photography lovers both appreciative, amateur and professional.  Whether you have a new camera and don't know where to begin, have a cell phone or are a more advanced photographer, this group is for you! They gather together on occasion to devote time together to learn more about the art and work with one another to use their talent through ministry.  For example, this ministry compiled a collection of area crosses to be formed into a larger cross banner and it's leader, Charles Cauley captured stunning images of our Advent wreath to use as the December bulletin art.  If you would like to know more about this relational group, please contact Charles Cauley
A Novel Idea Book Discussion
Third Tuesdays @ 5:30PM
This relational group meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30PM in the Education Building.  Members here have stirring and thought provoking conversations surrounding their readings which challenge themselves and each other.  If you would like to learn more, please contact Bob Kendall.
