Welcome to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Wilson, NC! We're glad you're interested in us!

First Christian celebrated its 150th year of ministry in 2021. Through the years, we have taken many shapes and sizes, and we continue to live and change. From a more traditional-style "mainline" church, First Christian has, like many churches, found itself seeking to be the hands, feet, voice, and body of Christ in a rapidly-changing period of time. What that means is that we, like the first followers of Jesus, are trying to be open to where the Spirit will lead us, to build a church for the 21st Century.

We call ourselves Disciples of Christ, and our focus as a denomination is to be "a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." We see ourselves as people who are defined, quite simply, as children of God in many shapes, opinions, and beliefs; but mostly, we see ourselves as called to be a people of love: love for God, love for each other, and love for those outside our walls.

Our hope is that you will find us to be people who are like you, looking for a place to grow closer to God, looking for meaning, looking for ways to be God's light shining in the world. We take a positive approach to our outreach ministries; we are experimental in some of the ways we worship; we seek to practice a deep spirituality.
