We live what we profess.  We welcome and affirm any and all, especially those in the LGBTQ+ communities.  While we are not "officially" considered Open & Affiming by the process through the Christian Church {Disciples of Christ} we ARE in that process right now!

A large portion of our leadership roles are through these amazing people of faith.  We welcome all of you into the ministry, life and leadership of First Christian, Wilson, just as you are, perfectly created and molded by God.

Welcome!

Welcome to First Christian Church! We appreciate your interest in our congregation!

Our worship style is traditional, but we continue to break the mold of what many consider to be traditional church values. At FCC, each person is valued and loved, held dearly as a Child of God. We seek to be ones who expand God’s realm of grace to include everyone just the way they have been created. We seek to follow God’s Spirit where it leads us, and we’re glad our paths have crossed.

We call ourselves Disciples of Christ, and our focus as a denomination is to be "a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." We see ourselves as people who are defined, quite simply, as children of God in many shapes, opinions, and beliefs; but mostly, we see ourselves as called to be a people of love: love for God, love for each other, and love for those outside our walls.

Our hope is that you’ll experience our folks to be people like you who are looking for safe space to explore who you are, who created you, and what you can do in this time. We take a kind, positive stance in our dealings with our outreach ministries. We aren’t afraid to try new things. We ask a lot of questions and encourage you to, also. We seek deep connections with God and one another.

It's our hope that you’ll stop in on a Sunday and check us out! Our service starts at 10:00 am and streams here. We hope to see you!

Rev. Scott Schieber

Words from within First Christian

Picture
At FCC, I have listened to sermons that do not make me want to storm out of the place or want to scream, "That is NOT what God meant!" I always leave the services feeling renewed, hopeful, and at peace. More importantly, I leave feeling that the people at First Christian Church love my daughter Emma Jane...really love her. From the first Sunday my daughter and her wife entered that church, they have felt welcome. They have felt INCLUDED. Emma Jane has known for years that the three-in-one God/Jesus/Holy Spirit loves her. Now she knows that members of a church love her -- not "no matter what" or "in spite of" or "love the sinner, not the sin" or any of the qualifiers that diminish love. She is loved completely, wholeheartedly, holily, sincerely. For most of her young adult life she felt suffocated inside the walls of a church. Now she can breathe. And so can I.

Christy has been living and doing business in Wilson since 1994. You may know her as the local “Chicken Lady,” as she is the local Chick-fil-A franchisee Owner here Wilson.

“My relationship with First Christian Church started when I took my son to Vacation Bible School. I fell in love with the congregation, and I have been here ever since.” Christy has served as a deacon, an elder, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and she is the current FCC Board Chair. “What I love most about FCC is that EVERYONE is welcome! My wife and I were married in this church, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. FCC has felt like home since my first visit many years ago. The worship is wonderful, and the congregation is the best.”

Hi!  We are Ethan and Robby and we have been at FCC for a year now.  Before moving to Wilson, we had been searching for a church family that was accepting of us as a couple.  We both grew up in church, and knew that we wanted to make that part of our lives together.  Luckily for us, we found just that in FCC through Wilson’s Pride event last year!  FCC has since become our church home, who not only supports us, but truly loves us for who we are.  We’ve been able to serve in several capacities such as VBS, the music ministry, and kid’s Sunday School.  Best of all, we were married in this church, a hope that we had all but given up on before finding FCC!  Just in this short year, FCC has been an immense blessing on us as a couple and we know it would be the same for you as well!  If you have been looking for a loving and accepting church, FCC is here to welcome you!

Hi! My name is Mary Lindsay and I have called FCC home for 26 years! This place has introduced me to people I consider family and has given me such a great support system.  One of my favorite things about FCC would be the community and the feeling of love and support that is shown to ALL!

Hi! My name is Casey and I am the Minister of Music & Organist at FCC, and a firmly supportive ally and a safe space for all! I have been fortunate to serve this congregation since 2007 and have witnessed it grow in God's over abundant love.  I believe that Christ came to break barriers that formerly excluded so many from fully participating in ministry and God's love.  I believe he was the mediator to show that God loves us all that in return, love God, and wants full peace with creation.  I love that my children are being raised in a place that extends overwhelming love to absolutely everyone, as Christ did in ministry!

A Unified Worship

Our worship stems from the Lectionary, and then transcends into spoken responses, prayers and music.

With a vast array of mediums, worship may include the organ, a classic choral anthem, an acoustic contemporary work, guitar, djembe, gospel or anything in between.  We utilize the gifts set before us to help enhance the scripture, as to better understand and ponder these words.  We also use tangible ways to express our prayers such a lighting candles and writing down the things which are on our hearts and releasing them to God.

First Christian is certainly blessed with a wonderful pipe organ.

For those unable to worship with us in person, feel free to join us via our YouTube Channel here.

Following worship in the 11:15AM hour, adults can join in on a small group or Sunday School class.

Where to Go & What to Wear

Activities at FCC take place in both our Sanctuary and our Education Building.
The Sanctuary is the large building with the tall steeple immediately off of Vance Street.

The Education Building (where the nursery, Sunday School and Wednesday evening activities are held) is next to the Sanctuary, separated by the Church Bell and an entrance off of Tarboro Street.

We have a large parking lot at the north corner of Tarboro and Vance Streets as well as limited 'on street parking' on both Vance and Tarboro Streets.  Continue scrolling down to learn more about special needs parking and accessibility.

You will see people dressed in a range of clothing.
Our family of believers wears anything from jeans to a suit and tie.
You will be welcome in whatever attire makes you feel comfortable.

Communion with Each Other

For members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the celebration of the Lord’s Supper is the central part of our worship, so we share the bread and cup every Sunday.

No one is turned away from this table of acceptance.
All are welcomed and affirmed here - no exceptions.
